Breakout is a full-time project for young people aged 13 to 25 who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender or unsure of their gender or sexual identity.

It is funded by Southampton City Youth Service and Southampton and South West Hampshire Primary Care Trust, and offers support and advice to young people who are members of the project, and to those who need someone who can listen in confidence.

Breakout was founded in 1992 and offers a weekly Thursday evening social group which meets between 7:00pm and 9:30pm at a safe venue in Southampton. The Thursday group is for young people aged 13-25 and offers a safe place to meet and socialise.

Throughout the year, the project provides a programme of visits and social events, as well as training and a yearly residential, that young people can choose to take part in.

The Youth Centre is committed to developing the educational, recreational, social and emotional well-being of young people in Newtown/Nicholstown and surrounding communities by providing quality programs, activities and projects for all. We will accomplish this in a safe and enjoyable environment led by positive role models and qualified youth workers who provide programs and activities based on the needs of the young people and the community.

Newtown Youth Centre is a building based youth work project, which is part of Southampton City Youth Support Services. Our aim is to engage with young people through a range of programs and activities. When you enter the centre you will find a lively and interesting atmosphere, full of enthusiastic and self-assured young people. So if it’s the Senior, Junior or the Young Women’s group there’s something to do for everyone. The centre offers an opportunity for young people to become involved in the learning process and decision-making, which affect their lives and those of others, as well as their environment.

We aim to encourage young people to gain the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to identify, advocate and pursue their rights and responsibilities as individuals and as members of groups and the community. We enable young people to understand and act upon personal, social and political issues that affect their lives, the lives of others and the communities of which they are a part off. We also offer accreditation opportunities, such as Duke of Edinburgh, Youth Achievement Award, First Aid, amongst others.

Newtown Young Women’s Group has been running out of the centre for over 6 years and at present, are offering a wide range of activities, programs and new opportunities to young women living in Southampton aged 12 – 24. The program includes workshops, sport, arts, off site activities, cultural and spritual awareness and having a voice in the community.
