Since 1999, YIP has undertaken many different tasks to work with young people and give them
the support they need. These have included:
Youthnetsouthampton
In August 2002, YIP became part of the Youthnetsouthampton initiative, a project that aims to link up different parts of Southampton and to enhance community cohesion, using I.T. as a means of doing so. YIP's base became the flagship centre with past YIP members forming the main everyday technical staff.

Posters, Leaflets and Flyers
YIP has designed posters and flyers to advertise upcoming events, and to highlight services and facilities available to young people.
Research Projects
YIP has written questionnaires and surveys to discover the views of young people on a variety of topics. YIP then collates the results of the information gathered and produces the data into readable form, from which conclusions can be drawn and, depending on the topic of the questionnaire, be used to decide what new things need to be done to help young people further, or how current efforts need to be adjusted to make them more helpful to who they are aimed.
Other Projects
YIP works with different projects, such as Connexions, to heighten awareness of their existence to young people.
Brochures
YIP produces guides to services around Southampton, and nationwide.
Hype Magazine
A major part of YIP is Hype magazine. This is a quarterly 32 page A5 publication that
covers a vast variety of subjects that either affect young people, or would be of interest them. Past topics have covered
everything from abortion to website reviews, drugs information to features on bands, intended to heighten young people's
awareness of different subjects, that maybe they didn't know about, and to advertise support that they could use but didn't know
they had access to. There have been thirteen issues so far, plus two special editions, since the first issue in June 2000, and
YIP has continually strived to improve the magazine's image.
New Deal for Communities
NDC is a nationwide funding organisation that offers money (£80m over 10 years for an area of 9,000 households) to give new life to different communities, to improve the area. YIP asked young residents of Thornhill what they would spend £15 million on, to improve their community. Funding was then supplied by the Government to put the changes into effect.
