YIP History

The Youth Information Project, otherwise known as YIP, was set up in October 1999 as part of the Southampton City Youth Service with the ultimate aim to find out just what young people want from the city of Southampton. It was, and still is, funded by Southampton City Council. At that time it was run by a single supervisor, and some participants of the New Deal scheme - Roy Ford, who was the YIP Leader, Peter Cox, Paul Godden, Dave Smith and John Brown.

In mid 2003, the Youth Information Project evolved into the Youth Involvement Project, and was then co-ordinated by the management team of Tanya Judd, Dale Baldwin and Amy Nelson, until December 2004, when both Tanya and Amy moved on to other things.

Currently YIP continues with an almost completely new team to give the opportunity for those participating in the New Deal scheme to gain some experience in writing the Youth Involvement Project's own magazine, Hype, to find out about different issues that they may have not known so much about before, and to provide a service to the youth population of Southampton.
