1. What personally identifiable information does Youthnetsouthampton collect from me?

Youthnetsouthampton collects information in several ways from different parts of our network of web sites. Some personal information is gathered when you register. During registration, Youthnetsouthampton asks for your name, birthday, postcode, and ethnicity among other things. The more information you volunteer (and the more accurate it is), the better we are able to customise your experience.

Once you register you are no longer anonymous to Youthnetsouthampton, gaining access to various protected areas of the site in the process. Also, if you contact Youthnetsouthampton we may keep a record of that correspondence.

Any information you give us in confidence is protected by the Data Protection Act 1998.

2. Who is collecting information?

When you are on a Youthnetsouthampton site and are asked for personal information, you are sharing that information with Southampton Young People and Community Support alone, unless it is specifically stated otherwise. If data is being collected and/or maintained by any other company, you will be notified prior to the time of the data collection, so you may choose not to participate. Please be aware that web sites that have links on our site may also collect personally identifiable information about you. The information practices of those web sites linked to Youthnetsouthampton are not covered by this privacy statement.

3. Who does Youthnetsouthampton share my information with?

Updated January 2008: As a general rule, Youthnetsouthampton will not give out any of your personally identifiable information. Your information will be used in our access statistics, however you will not be personally indentifable from the parts we use. For example, we may break down how many members of the site are male, and how many are female, but you will never be named in that breakdown. We ask that you do not publicise any personal information on the site, when using the blogs or comment systems etc.

4. Can I update, correct, or delete my personally identifiable information?

Updated June 2008: You can change your details at any time when logged in by choosing the Edit Profile option from your profile page. If you change your name, date of birth, gender or ethnicity, your membership will need to be approved once more.

5. What security precautions are in place to protect the loss, misuse, or alteration of my information?

Your Youthnetsouthampton account information is protected by an encrypted password, so that you and only you have access to it. We recommend that you do not divulge your password to anyone. Youthnetsouthampton will never ask you for your password in an unsolicited phone call or in an unsolicited email. Also remember to log out of your Youthnetsouthampton account when you have finished using it. This is to ensure that others using the same computer cannot access your personal information. Whenever Youthnetsouthampton handles personal information as described above, regardless of where this occurs, Youthnetsouthampton takes steps to ensure that your information is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, Youthnetsouthampton cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems.

Southampton Young People and Community Support uses this type of information to understand the performance of its site. Google Analytics use these cookies to help us recognise whether you have previously visited the site and to personalise your visit. We only use these cookies to track a visitor's movements through the site for statistical analysis. This allows us to see how popular different parts of the site are, helping us decide how best to further develop the site. We do not analyse visits to other websites. Please keep in mind that whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information online - for example on message boards, through email, or in chat areas - that information can be collected and used by others.
