Southampton’s secondary schools are enjoying a good start to the new year after the Department for Education published the verified GCSE results from 2011 – confirming that it was a record year for schools in the city.

A police backed scheme to help tackle anti-social behaviour in Southampton gets underway tomorrow, Friday 21 October.
 
The ‘Saints Connect’ project is aimed at youngsters aged 10 to 16, is free, and police officers will be engaging with young people and encouraging them to go.

Children and young people in Southampton with disabilities and special educational needs (SEN) are set to be among the first in the country to benefit from reforms set out in a government Green Paper after Southampton City Council and NHS Southampton City PCT jointly won a bid for 'pathfinder' status.

Southampton City Council has announced it is backing Barnardo’s efforts to tackle child sexual exploitation. The council has signed up to support the charity's 'Cut Them Free' campaign, which aims to reduce the number of children and young people experiencing the horror of child sexual exploitation.


St George Catholic consults on becoming a co-ed school

Saint George Catholic College is holding a six-week consultation on inviting girls to join in Year 7 from September 2013. Currently an all boys 11-16 school, this change would mean it became a co-educational establishment.

Weeks of anxious waiting are finally over today for students across Southampton as the results of this year's A Levels are published.

All of Southampton’s sixth-form colleges have either matched or improved upon last year’s results, while nationally pass rates have risen again.
