What is a Blog?
By now you must have heard of weblogs. Technically, a blog is a series of posts arranged in chronological order. They are becoming an important form of expression.

Visitor BadgeOnce you reach the level of Visitor (level 3), you are able to write a blog as part of your My Profile. You will see the badge shown on your My Profile page. The latest posted blogs will be listed on the Youthnetsouthampton homepage.

So what is a blog?

Components:
Subject or Header: Your blog's title.

Content or Body: The text is typed or pasted into the body. Content will be filtered for strong language to non-members, but members may choose to disable the filter. Racist language will not be allowed.

Comments: The comment feature allows others to take part in a discussion about what you've written in your blog. If you're going to comment on somebody's post and you disagree with what they've said, give reasons for why you think that way. Racist language, harassment and bullying will not be tolerated.

Time and Date: Because blogs are arranged in chronological order (the most recent thing you've written appears first), it's important for visitors to note the time and date of each post.

Bookmarking and Community: Bloggers will often link to other blogs and websites as a way of making a point, or citing a source. This not only adds an air of credibility to the blog, but it also allows readers to visit blogs they might not have otherwise heard about. You can also share links to entries in your blog on certain social networking sites, such as Facebook, by clicking the icons below a blog post.

Today's Blogs: Nowadays blogs are important communication tools. Businesses use them to discuss news or promote what they sell, and families use them to keep in touch. Through blogs we can read political and religious views or learn about the latest software. We can enjoy jokes and observe personal struggles. Some bloggers use their online journals to highlight their personal achievements.

Personal Touches: Most serious bloggers work hard at making their blog pages reflective of their personalities and the content matter. It's such creativity that makes their blogs stand out above the others. How much time and effort you put into your blog is entirely up to you, but it's the personal touches that make readers come back for more.

Blogs are an enjoyable way to learn about the world around us.
